CHS ThermalBank: operating features

1. Charge Mode (Ice Making)

During off-peak hours, glycol circulates through a chiller and around Ice Balls in a storage tank, freezing the ice.

2. Discharge Mode (Ice Melting)

During peak hours, glycol passes over the Ice Balls, gets chilled, and is sent to the load for cooling. Heat exchangers may be used to avoid glycol leaving the plant room.

3. Standby Mode

Chillers cool the load directly without using stored ice, conserving energy for peak periods. of high electrical rates.
